Our Mission is to provide support to persons with gluten intolerances, including celiac disease, dermatitis herpetiformis and gluten sensitivities to live healthy lives.

This class is specifically designed for those newly diagnosed with celiac disease, wheat allergy, or gluten intolerance and for those just looking for updated educational information. This program shares current information in a small group format for those learning how to adhere to a gluten free and wheat free diet. We will have available an educational packet used during the class for a fee of $5.00 ($4.00 for members). Gluten free refreshments and a take-home shopping bag with gluten free samples and literature will be provided for free. Pre-registration is highly recommended to assure proper set up and sufficient handouts.

GIG Annual Conference Review & Bread Baking Contest

Annual Conference Review: Our Branch Manager, Linda Weller, attended the Annual Conference in Minneapolis and will be sharing all the latest information about gluten intolerance and celiac disease. If you would like a copy of the conference handout materials (there will be a fee for the photocopy expense), please contact us by Monday, August 16th.

Bread Baking Contest: Get out your bread machines, baking pans, spatulas, and gluten free bread recipes!! We are having a gluten free bread baking contest as part of this program and of course sampling of the breads by all in attendance.
Rules of the contest:

  • Contestants need to submit their breads by 6:00 p.m.  We will have a panel of judges choosing the lucky winners and awarding of the prizes.
  • There will be two categories: one for recipes from scratch and one for recipes from store-bought mixes.
  • Registration is required by Monday, August 16th.
  • A copy of the recipe is required to be submitted with your registration. This will be your permission to photocopy the recipe to share with attendees so they can check for other food allergies (i.e. nuts) and other intolerances (i.e. dairy). Recipes can be emailed or sent to GIG at PO Box 312, Hershey, PA  17033, by the August 16th deadline.

Please register for this program by Monday, August 16, to assure set up and refreshments are sufficient.

Gluten Free Food Co-Op
Deadline: Monday, August 16!!
Delivery: Friday, August 27 (Pick up is required at the August 30th program or by special arrangements with Juanita. Frozen food must be picked up on delivery day.)

Steps to follow to place an order through the Food Co-Op:

1) Check out the Gluten Free items available from Garden Spot Distributors by going to their website – www.gardenspotdist.com. Click on "Products" on the left column of the Garden Spot Distributors webpage.

2) Call Steve Rosenberg at 717-652-3177 or email sixteasguy@comcast.net to obtain the current case prices of items of interest. Remember that a small change in price could occur from the time ordered and the actual delivery date.

3) Monthly special list will be emailed to all members as soon as received from Garden Spot.

4) Then if you decide to place an order, download the order form from this website. (see below). Mail your order form to Juanita Julian ( 1468 Park Lane, Harrisburg, PA 17112) with your check made payable to “GIG of Harrisburg” to arrive no later than the above listed deadline.

5) In order to place an order with Garden Spot, we will need to receive a grand total of $400 in orders and payments by the deadline.
